Marion Wachtel is one of the California women artists who were successful at the turn of the 20th century.  She was proficient using the medium of watercolor or oil, to capture her subject matter.  The remarkable painting, Mountain Reflection, shines with the personal style so distinctive to Marion’s work. Her sensitivity to line, sure strokes, and balanced composition are unmistakable. The bright color of the oil is very much a trademark of this gifted artist.

Marion and her husband, Elmer Wachtel (1864-1929) traveled extensively throughout California. They were explorers and found great joy in discovering new and intriguing locations to paint.  Marion painted the coastal areas, inland valleys and the grandeur of the California Mountains. Mountain Reflection was undoubtedly painted on one of their trips to the High Sierra Mountains.
