Nationally acclaimed for his magnificent impressionist landscapes, Gregory Hull is among the country’s most prominent plein air painters. Like the early impressionists of California, he is drawn to the Golden State for its diverse, picturesque landscapes, extraordinary climate, and brilliant light. Hull’s relentless pursuit of scenic locations has taken him to the high peaks of the Sierra Mountains and to the depths of the Grand Canyon.
Hull is an incredibly versatile artist, equally adept at figurative, still life and landscape paintings. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Utah where he met Alvin Gittins, an Academy-trained portraitist whose approach to art deeply influenced him. This philosophy of drawing and painting from life, and the study of human anatomy, gave him a solid foundation upon which he has achieved widespread acclaim.
The recipient of numerous prestigious awards throughout the United States, Hull’s work is represented in several corporate collections. A monumental achievement depicting the Grand Canyon, four by sixteen feet, is prominently displayed at the Kierland Westin Hotel and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Meadows Del Mar Golf Club in San Diego features Hull’s painting as their signature image and Owens Valley strikingly adorns the lobby of the Montage Resort and Spa, Laguna Beach. In addition, he has completed several noted portraits for celebrities and public figures.
On the Trail is a spectacular work by Gregory Hull that was inspired by the historic artist, Edgar Payne. Hull perfectly portrays travel on horseback high in the glorious Sierra Nevada mountain range. In this outstanding painting he combines the ability to merge the magnificent mountain scenery with exquisite figurative work.
